What holds you down in life? What holds you back? What enslaves you? This week at Rock Us, we began talking about the chains in life that bind us and keep us down. As part of our small group discussion time this week at Rock Us, we anonymously surveyed all the youth in attendance about the chains that they experience in their lives. The word picture here is a graphic summation of chains that our teens recognize having in their lives. Jesus said, “A thief comes only to rob, kill, and destroy. I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.” (Jn 10:10) The devil wants to use these chains to rob, kill and destroy our youth. But Jesus came to break every chain & He can do that for you too!
We have always loved our video program here at the Journey Cafe, from the old days when our small groups split up to compete in special video projects, to when Ted E. Behr and Doppler Dan broken down the normal constructs of “weathermen”, when Blackout and the Agents went head to head to fight for your souls, and finally when video games became real life in order for you to go deeper into yours. Either way we love YouTube and videos in general and I’m here to tell you we are doing A LOT more of it in the future! So keep up with our YouTube account and find what it truly means to believe.
See the new Logo? It’s all apart of the recent efforts to revamp our social media presence! This includes a brand new YouTube channel trailer and a Twitter account. We plan to use all of these resources in helpful, positive ways in our to outreach and give glory to God! Be sure to follow us @journeycafe320 and check out our YouTube page today!
Christian hip-hop artist, Michael Fugitt, brought his dynamic blend of rap & pop to Rock Us youth group ast night at the Journey. He also gave a clear and passionate message about sin, eternity and the hope we have in Jesus Christ. Michael, who now hails from Bakersfield, CA, has been coming to the Journey for the last 10 years. We wish him and his wonderful family many blessings for the rest of his winter tour.
This is my banjo. Like me, it’s not normal. This is 6-string banjo. (Traditional bluegrass banjos have 5 strings). My 6-stringer was made this way so guitar players like me could get the sound of a banjo without learning the very different neck & playing style of a real banjo. I affectionately call it my ‘cheater banjo’ . Though there may be some like it, this banjo is unique.
We’re all different. Each an every human being has a unique DNA sequence, unique finger prints, unique personality, unique gifts & talent, and unique life experiences. Who among us can confidently say, “I’m normal”? You may think it, but the fact is that there is no normal. In fact, you are truly unique. And you were purposefully and masterfully made this way. You are not some cosmic accident or a random collection of biological material. You are not a highly evolved ape. You are not a mistake. No, not at all.
The truth is you are God’s masterpiece (Eph 2:10). He loving made in His image (Gen 1:27). He knows you & loves, and He made you for a great purpose (Lk 12:7 ; Jn 3:16; Jer 29:11). So don’t try to be normal. Don’t try to be someone else. Seek God first in all things (Mt 6:33) & be the unique masterpiece that God you to be.
